Market Your HR Consultancy Online — Part 1 Continued

So, how’s that website coming along?

Recognizing that building a website may seem difficult to some, and on the off-chance that you’re not convinced that you need a website, I wanted to give you another opportunity to get onboard with laying the foundation for your online activities, and that is — Get A Website — it’s that important.

I’m not the only one who thinks so.  John Jantsch, author of Duct Tape Marketing (now in its second revision), gave a webinar earlier today, and one of the slides in his presentation contained a great graphic showing a website as the center of all your online marketing activities — that’s how important a website is.
*Total Web Presence adapted from Duct Tape Marketing web presentation of October 4, 2011.

Although the graphic above isn’t as pretty as the graphic in John’s presentation, I’ve adapted it for our purposes so you can see what I mean when I say that a website is the foundation of all your online marketing activities.  Notice how the various marketing activities feed into your website and vice versa.

For those of you who feel that social media accounts can take the place of a website, notice in the graphic above that social media is not at the center of your web presence.  In fact, social media is just another spoke in the wheel of your online presence.  This is because you can’t control your social media accounts, as the many Facebook changes that have come down the pike lately has demonstrated.  Because it is free to use, you have no say in how it changes, when it changes or how you can use it, and how you can use it changes many times during the year.  A website, on the other hand, changes only when you decide to change it.

A website is more permanent than social media.  As stated in the last post, a social media posting has a life span of 3 hours, but a website has a life span of forever.  Even if you were to stop paying for your website, it would remain in the memory of the Internet forever, waiting to be called up for view by a search engine result.

In case you haven’t gotten that all important website yet, I’ve done some research into some FREE and some paid website providers.  I’ve compiled the research into a downloadable spreadsheet, which you can download here.

After reviewing the spreadsheet, if you still don’t feel comfortable building a DYI website, I’d be happy to assist you.  Just schedule a FREE, 30-minute consultation, and I’ll be happy to talk with you about laying the foundation of your online activities for you.
